Description | ARTIST STATEMENT ABOUT THIS PAINTING: "Holding a Neapolitan cone in my hand as it’s chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavors melted in drips down my fingers was a favorite memory. My mother used to buy the ice cream in a large plastic bucket that had a handle and our family of nine could go through it in a week! I have classic memories of scraping the bottom with a large metal spoon and licking it clean as I lifted out the last few bites." Jarvis attended the University of Utah and studied art to hone the skills she had been developing since childhood. Jarvis also began to enter her work into competitions and limited herself to oil as her medium and still life as her primary subject matter. She studied at Hein Academy of Art with Jeff Hein and Bryce Billings. Where most people would see a group of inanimate objects, Jarvis sees a story, brimming with life and meaning. Her stunning work conveys these stories visually through vibrant colors and rich textures. Jarvis’ still life works are not simply arrangements of objects on a surface but painted narratives. “Each still life object I paint has to speak to me or have a story connected to it,” she says. She feels that her mission as an artist is to create quiet, restful work by combining traditional painting with a nontraditional view of her subjects. Jarvis belongs to Women Artists of the West (WAOW), Oil Painters of America (OPA) and American Women Artists (AWA). |
