Archers du Ciel 1949
-
Description
This stunning etching, entitled "Archers du Ciel" was executed by the celebrated Belgian artist Joseph Bonvoisin in 1949. Three male nude figures dominate the center of the composition, standing upon rocky peaks shooting arrows into the sky. In the lower left background of the composition there stands a town with church steeple, and two figures dressed as jesters engaged in a sword fight. Two bystanders, sharply dressed in slacks, sweaters and dress shirts are depicted in the background also atop the rocky cliff gazing skyward at the arrows as they travel through the atmosphere. Inspired by the work of Albrecht Durer with its incredible precision, microscopic detail and graphic sensibility, this work is sure to delight discerning collectors of modern art as well as those with a penchant for exquisite objects. It comes presented in a custom white gold gallery frame and is in excellent vintage condition. Inscribed "Jos. Bonvoisin 1949" in the plate, and also hand signed, titled and inscribed with the edition number (55/60) in pencil.
