Description | For this project, Cushing created two ‘sister’ artworks that provide an unconventional palette of acidic colors i.e chartreuse, orange, lilac, yellow but soften them with neutrals, smoke, mink, bronze, and grays. This selection looks particularly marvelous with a rich, wooden scheme. Cushing has gained international acclaim for her large scale, site specific installations of hand-made colored glass. After studying an eclectic array of disciplines at the Chelsea School of Art and Design in London, Cushing focused her attention on public art, specializing in architectural ceramics and glass. She creates bespoke glass installations and compositions for private and commercial spaces such as offices, reception areas, hotels, hospitals, high-end galleries and retail spaces. Each site-specific artwork is developed considering its relationship with the space. Color sequence is fundamental to Cushing’s process, displaying continuity or contrast. Her sculptural installations are often wall fixed or suspended. Her suspended installations weave color with mesmerizing effect creating diluted wall reflections. They hang with a sense of fragility, the slight movement adding ethereal quality. With a strong design background Cushing has confidently crossed over to luxury product development with experience of working with a variety of materials and production processes including large-scale drawing, painting and all 3-D disciplines. She spent many years experimenting with kilns, recording results and building a portfolio of techniques until her required effect of the infinite emotions that color evokes and the language it communicates, was achieved. The energy and rhythm of a particular work’s palette is integral for Cushing as she spends most of her studio time perfecting the elaborate color sequence and overall balance. Precious metallic coatings and different leafs are used to catch and refract ambient light giving the installations a hidden depth. As the artist is available on a commission basis, bespoke design can be created to collectors specifications. Dimensions: (2 x artworks) 71 x 47 inches |
