Description Steel wrenches are molded into a large mask and hair that is pulled back in a dynamic gesture. This dramatic, indoor sculpture is mounted on a steel pole. The title of the work was inspired by the points of the spanners which, for the artist, brought to mind the Old Testament story of Absalom who sought to unseat his father, King David. Absalom's life came to an end one day as he was riding under some trees and his long hair became entangled in thorny branches. He was unhorsed and suspended in a tree where his foes discovered him.

Dale Dunning holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. While earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Mt. Allison University, NB, he studied under Lawren P. Harris and George Tiessen. Dunning has exhibited across Canada and his work is held in private, corporate and public collections including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Robert McLaughlin Gallery, McIntosh Gallery at Western University, Carleton University Art Collection, and the National Library of Canada. "My sculptures are objects of reflection and contemplation. The head that I employ in most of my work is generic, non-specific ... I look on them as a mirror which reflects back the observer's experience in new combinations and associations." ~ Dale Dunning
