Description After Mathurin Moreau, pair of life size cast-iron French figural torcheres from late 19thC. Cast by the Val d'Osne foundry and based on engravings by Moreau, one of the most celebrated sculptors of the 19th century. One figure holds a snake; the other a ball. . As illustrated and referenced a pair from the same foundry in the "Fantasy in Taste" exhibition of Parish-Hadley, by Albert Hadley; from the book Albert Hadley by Adam Lewis. Amazing detail in all respects and a wonderful patina only hinted at in these photos.

Moreau's sculptures were reproduced by the Val d'Osne foundry, established in 1835 by Andre, and renamed Houille et Cie in 1867 when taken over by Barbezat. It was later know as the Societe Anonyme des Hautes Fourneaux &Fonderies du Val d'Osne and had a shop in Paris at Boulevard Voltaire.
