Description Keisho III, Walnut Totemic Sculpture by Mira Nakashima, New Hope, PA, 2003

Mira Nakashima and the Nakashima Studio reflect enduring nature of furniture design and production rooted in the studio craft movement. Keisho III is a classic example of the exquisite craftsmanship and love of material that is the legacy of the Nakashima studio started by her father, George Nakashima, one of the most acclaimed and accomplished furniture makers in American history. Its commanding presence is softened by the warm natural tones of the walnut while the hardwood’s knots and open center provide visual interest. Commonly found in Nakashima designs, the sculpture features two signature rosewood butterfly keys.

Exhibition: Made for Nature, Form and Spirit, Mingei International Museum, San Diego, 2003; Sun Valley Center for the Arts, Ketchum, Idaho, 2004; The Japanese American National Museum, Los Angeles, California, 2004-2005
