René Letourneur (Paris 1898-1990)
First exhibited in 1922 at the Salon des artistes français, where he was awarded a medal. He won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1926 and with his friend, the sculptor Jacques Zwobada, won a competition for the construction of a Monument to Simón Bolívar, commissioned by the Ecuadorian State. He worked on the decoration of building facades and became involved in the resistance during the Second World War.

In 1934, he began the construction of his house, built by the architect André Leconte and completed in 1957, on which he painted a cementolithic fresco.
Between the end of the war and 1970, he created several monumental sculptures, including the Monument to the Dead of Alençon and the decoration of the Pecq bridge representing La Seine on one side and L'Oise on the other. From 1972 onwards, he devoted himself to direct in-studio creations.

René Letourneur is buried in the Fontenay-aux-Roses cemetery.
