Title: Modern Abstract Surrealist "Venus à la Girafe" by Salvador Dalí Sculpture in Solid Bronze 2/299, France, c. 1970's

About: Introducing a rare and collectable 2/229 solid bronze sculpture depicting an abstracted woman presented draped from hips to feet in the Hellenistic manner. Her head is positioned on the top of the disproportionally elongated textured neck, thus the designation of giraffe. This disproportion appears as the consequence of the Surrealist Movement in which Dali took part as a direct heir.

Classically inspired by the traditional presentation of Venus of the Hellenistic period, the bust is lacking arms and bare-breasted. A long and empty drawer extends forward from her stomach below the navel and is held with a detached crutch launching endless speculation as to the meaning of the drawer and it's supposed contents.

Salvador Dali pieces are part of the Surrealist Movement of the 20th century and represent the "manifestation of unconsciousness", as it was considered by Freud. Dali is more well known for his fantastical visual works, however his sculpture works are a perfect medium to translate into reality his manifestations of unconsciousness. This particular limited edition piece encapsulates this surrealism and symbolism better than almost any of his enigmatic works.
