Description A finely carved Italian neoclassic Carrara marble terms of the philosophers Homer and Socrates after the antique, circa 1820.

The pair depicting the Greek philosophers Homer (around 850 BC) and Socrates (469-369 BC). An idealized Helenistic portrait of Homer, resembling the present carving, may be found in the British Museum. A close likeness to our carving of Socrates may be found in the Vatican Museum.
