Mechanical Bank "Home Bank" without Dormers circa 1872
-
Description
This is a very "early" post-Civil War cast iron mechanical bank and difficult to find. It was manufactured in 1872 by the J. & E. Steven's Company, in Cromwell, Connecticut. It was made with dormers and without dormers on the roof and came in several different colors. This is obviously the blue and white version with "no dormers". The bank measures 4 1/2" deep x 3 3/4" wide x 5 1/4" high, and is in good to very good all original paint and condition. There is no touch-up paint or restoration of any kind and the cast iron cashier is original.
The bank operates as follows:
Pullout / pull-out the knob on the right front of the bank and move to the left until it snaps into place with the cashier facing out; put a coin on the ledge in front of the cashier in the slot provided; push on the same knob or lever to the right and the door will revolve around, turning 180 degrees depositing the coin into the bank.
