Description Rare face mask for protection designed for use on a tank in WWI. A man in the tank wearing a helmet would need to stick his head out to see at some point. The face needed to be protected from shrapnel. The mask made of Sheffield hardened iron is covered with leather and has a chain mail veil to protect the mouth. The best feature was the slitted eye cover. Mounted over a metal base. Ht on base is 9 inches.
