Description A Japanese 6 Panel Screen of Cranes Amidst Pine Trees by Water
Edo Period, 18th Century
This spatially complex screen is also striking in its portrait of movement with roiling water, cranes walking and flying, a pine which bends from the force of nature, even the mountains thrust upward. Five majestic red crown cranes both in flight and gathered about a twisted ancient pine, with mountains rising to the left and upper right, turbulent water dashes the shoreline. An extraordinary and rare example of the art of Japan.

In very good, age appropriate condition, this beautiful work would enhance any collection.

The "bird of happiness," the Japanese crane is said to live for a thousand years and symbolize longevity and good fortune.
