Description Edo period painting (early 19th century) of white and pink hollyhocks in bloom. This flower is often referenced in Japanese culture, most notably the hollyhock makes up the family crest of the Tokugawa clan, the last shogunate of Japan. Signature reads: Hokuyo Chikuriin. Mineral pigments on gold leaf.
