Description
A rare survivor from the late 15th century. The large size, simple linear design with the decorative book fold panels in contrast with the distressed look give it an attractive archaeological appearance. The visible construction showing the massive dovetails and iron studs, as well as the beautiful wrought iron hinges, are typical medieval features. The fact that this chest was made of walnut (and not the usual oak) makes it a rare example of its type and results in a deep warm color and patina. On later base.
Our pieces are left in lived-in condition, pending our custom conservation and polish to preference.
On consignment from a sophisticated collector. -
