Description Axel Einar Hjorth was major contributor to the burgeoning Swedish design culture that was recognised internationally in the 1920s. He effectively introduced Swedish decorative arts and architecture to the United States. His minimal and unique style heralded the Swedish modern movement.

This beautifully simple wooden bookshelf for Nordiska Kompaniet in the 1930s is a good example of Hjorth’s style. It is made from a stained wood and features two adjustable shelves. It is in good structural condition with some minor surface wear and scratches in places. Some light surface restoration will be done before sale, unless there is an express wish otherwise.
