Description
Chinese Export camphor wood campaign trunk with hinged top, decorated with brass bound edges, top and front have inner rectangular brass borders with inlaid fleur-de-lis in the corners, brass shield shape name plate, recessed brass handle to lift the lid, brass bail carrying handles on the sides, mounted on modern casters for mobility. Strong smelling camphor wood was used to repel insects since they were sold mostly to European’s traveling through the East. The height and size of the trunk make it perfect for use as a coffee table, as an end table next to a chair or as a storage unit at the foot of a bed.

Period: 19th Century Materials: Camphor Wood, Brass Condition: Good. Some of the brass inlay has been repaired. Modern casters have been added for mobility and are hardly noticeable.
