French, early 20th Century
Dimensions: Height 113cm, width 84cm, depth 62cm
This charming roll-top desk is crafted from ormolu mounted hardwood, with a grey-green marble top and leather inside. The desk stands on four square-profile tapered legs, which culminate in small ormolu claw feet. The front two legs are mounted with ormolu mounts in the shape of Empire style busts with foliate sprays. There are similar mounts throughout, with laurel leaf garlands to either side of the roll-top, angels to the frieze drawer and front of the roll-top, and scrolling foliate details and sprays elsewhere. The desk itself opens to reveal a leather writing table that slides out. Above, there are twin drawers and a large space for storage. Above the roll-top are two more drawers inset below the marble plateau. -
