Mid Century Modern Sculptural Walnut Chest w/ Carved Detailing by Edmond Spence

Sold Sold
  • Description
This rare and stunning chese was realized by the legendary designer Edmond Spence in Sweden, circa 1950. It features a rectangular body in hand rubbed walnut with three drawers on each side, offering a wealth of storage possibilities. The center of the piece offers hand carved striations suggesting the organic texture of running water. Extending from this central design, across the center drawers, are two elongated curvilinear tendrils which culminate in concentric circular forms presented in relief. Additionally, it offers a channeled apron and curved legs that gracefully extend slightly beyond the perimeter of the body. With its exquisite artisanal detailing and completely unique design- created by an icon of 20th Century design- this piece is as versatile as it is stunning, appearing as modern today as when it was was created some sixty years ago. Consequentially, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. It has been restored to mint condition.
