Description
An incredible breakfront bookcase, made of mahogany in the Georgian style, with incorporated desk. Made circa 1810, this stunning English piece has three glass-front upper cabinets set above a cased plinth base. The upper cabinets have all of their original wavy glass panes, the topmost shaped with Gothic arches. The doors all lock before interiors that are equipped with three adjustable shelves. The interior has been painted a brick red color that makes its contents stand out. The base has a fold-down desk that extends with a clearance of 28 1/4″. This space is equipped with seven smaller drawers and four pigeon holes. Three cabinets below each contain fixed shelves, with two large drawers flanking the desk. This commanding piece would make a study or office, but could be used in any large room.
