French 19th Century Empire-Style Commode
-
Description
Dimensions: 34-¾”H x 49-⅞”W x 22-⅛”D
This is a fun and playful walnut commode, from the 1820’s or earlier. It has a beautiful patinated finish with tons of life shown all over. A wooden top is framed on three sides. There are four drawers with mismatched brass escutcheons. The top drawer is disguised into the apron and has carved-out finger pulls under the front edge to open the drawer. The three lower drawers have turned wood knobs, unusual for this style commode. The bank of drawers are flanked by traditional style columns of the Empire fashion, finished with brass ormolu capitals and bases. The front is supported on bun feet, one which is only half a bun while the back is supported on square feet. The locks do not have a key. See detailed pictures for condition. -
