French 19th Century Transitional Secrétaire à Abattant

Description
A wonderful mahogany desk with a wood top. The hardware and escutcheons are mixed adding a playful whimsy to this cased piece. A single drawer can be found at the top of the desk that has two oval brass drop-ring pulls. The front of the desk folds down when unlocked, revealing a burgundy leather topped work surface at 30-?”H, six cubbies and four drawers with brass drop-ring pulls. The leather is in antique condition and wonderfully worn. When opened, the desk measures 37-½”D. Beneath the work area is a storage cavity that houses three cubbies concealed behind lockable doors with a unique latch holding the left door shut. The corners of the desk are fluted with dentil capital carvings. The whole is raised on four square, tapered feet. There is a key that operates the lock in the drop front work surface and the lower door. Antique locks are finicky, so we recommend you use pulls instead of locks when possible.
