French 19th Century Transitional Walnut Buffet

Sold Sold
  • Description
A handsome walnut buffet, made in France, c. 1830. This case piece has been constructed in a transitional style. The apron contains two drawers that can be opened by placing your hand just under the front of the drawer face and pulling. Two paneled doors close before an interior equipped with a single fixed shelf. The right door has a working lock while the left door has an interior latch. A single key operates the locks for both the door and the right drawer and acts as a pull for both. The lock for the left drawer does not work but has a key that can be used as a pull. All drawers and doors have a shield-shaped escutcheon plate. The solid walnut is superbly patinated with wonderful graining and texture.
