From concrete art to abstract photography and modular design, the body of work of Geraldo de Barros represents the key figure he was during that time in Brazil. Together with other artists, he founded important and influential groups, including "Grupo 15" and "Grupo Ruptura".

Influenced by the Bauhaus movement, he founded "Unilabor", a labor community that specialized in creating modular furniture.

Geraldo de Barros is considered one of the most influential Brazilian artists of the 20th century. He is best known for his Fotoformas (1946-1952), a series of photographs that used multiple exposures, abstract forms, and rotated images, to capture a phenomenological experience of Brazil's exponential urbanization in the mid-twentieth century.
