Gustavian Neoclassical Drop Front Secretaire, c. 1785-1800
-
Description
This is a fine example of a Swedish Gustavian late 18th century Secretaire. The two-part structure is very desirable and retains it's original scraped surface and wonderful natural patina. The muted pale gray/blue-gray surface brings out the fine detailing of the desk. The interior features a multitude of small drawers with painted faux grained fronts. The tambour section is original, as the painted surface matches the base coat original surface of the drawer fronts. All of the original brass hardware is present as are the tiny original bone knobs in the drop front section. Two -part Gustavian Secretaires are highly desirable. The faux grain painting to the interior section drawers, makes this piece exceptional.
