Mid Century Modern Brass, Walnut & Cane Cabinet by Harvey Probber
-
Description
This sophisticated cabinet was designed by Harvey Probber- circa 1960- and handmade in Fall River, Massachusettes. Probber was celebrated with his austere and elegant designs, creating furniture with the belief that "aging gracefully" represented "the fourth dimension" of great design. This piece features cane fronts with a rectilinear weave framed in walnut, with rectangular legs- also in walnut- and brass sabots. Below the bottom of the cabinet, there is a rectangular open support in brushed brass that extends beyond the perimeter of the legs. The top and sides of the piece have been executed in walnut exhibiting a particularly stunning woodgrain. The interior of the piece offers three adjustable shelves on the right side, and four drawers with a sinuously curved cutouts on the left, providing a wealth of storage possibilities. This cabinet embodies American Mid Century design at its best- "born out of natural simplicity and functionality." It is in mint restored condition.
