Description 19th Century gilt bronze, mahogany and marble cabinet by Dasson
French, 1882
Height 93cm, width 118cm, depth 51cm
This masterfully crafted cabinet by Henry Dasson is a truly exceptional example of 19th Century French furniture-making of the period. Made from rich mahogany and intricate gilt-bronze, this piece of furniture would compliment and enhance any well-appointed luxury interior.
The cabinet is of curved, rectangular form, and features a striking, red, veined marble top. Below the top runs a band of egg-and-dart gilt bronze above three narrow drawers. All three drawers are mounted with a graceful gilt-bronze frieze of scrolling acanthus leaves. Distinguishing its importance, the front, central drawer features a key opening, and the pair of curved, flanking drawers open at the gentle touch of a push button.
Below the drawers are three beautiful yet practical cupboards, all of which are mounted with beaded, gilt-bronze frame decorations, and interspersed with elegant gilt-bronze mounts of flowers trailing from a bow. The front, central cupboard opens to reveal a glass shelf, marble floor and mirrored backing. The pair of curved, flanking cupboards feature similar marble flooring and mirrored backing. The cabinet is set on four elegantly robust tapered legs which are tipped with intricate gilt-bronze spade feet.
