George Nelson for Herman Miller Thin-Edge Nightstands in Rosewood, Pair
-
Description
The great George Nelson left us with a massive portfolio of forward thinking design which Herman Miller has largely kept alive to this day. Nelson became design director for Herman Miller after the passing of the famed Gilbert Rohde (click to explore a Rohde design). It was previous versions of this now well known “Thin-Edge” series which caught the eye of Herman Miller founder D.J. De Pree. Nelson would go on to work for Herman Miller developing countless designs for 25 years, included in his body of work are these Thin-Edge Series Nightstands in Rosewood.
Nelson’s nightstands embody the best of the Mid-Century design movement, from materiality to proportion. His Thin-Edge series was an assemblage of the finest materials of the time; Aluminum, Porcelain, and the highly sought after Rosewood which is now a protected species. The collection’s name comes from its iconic thin frame around its face which furthers the diminutive quality of these nightstands. Storage space is ample with two compartments of open shelving as well as drawers which are accessed by way of the gloss-finished porcelain pull. Each stand sits atop four petite yet durable cast aluminum legs. The entire design is a conversation of materials executed in a way only George Nelson could do.
These Thin-Edge Nightstands remain in their original condition and show minor wear consistent with age and history. The pair are structurally sound and function just as they were originally intended. We chose to retain the patina on these nightstands however full refinishing is available upon request, please contact us for more information. These nightstands are a part of a larger George Nelson for Herman Miller Thin-Edge set comprised of a pair of Dressers and a Gentleman's Chest, please feel free to further explore this collection and contact us with any questions. -
