Description
Louis XV/Louis XVI French Walnut “Painted" Commde with Pyrenese Marble Top & Bronze filigree
Walnut, Marble, Bronze
H: 30.5 D: 22 W: 39 in.
*It is from the lower part of France, as it is a transition piece between Louis XV and Louis XVI (1740-60) it is hard to tell exactly where - probably Provence or the Lyon region. The marble is a marble only from the Pyrenees so that is a clue, and one of the reasons I bought it, It is a great combination of bronze filigree, French painted walnut, and marble, understatedly chic and very expensive at the time… So it is curious; one of the other elements that drew me to it was the one long drawer with the two smaller on top. It is a finely thought out chest, and a uncommon size. -
