Description Fine early 18th Century English chest of drawers veneered in nicely figured "mulberry" wood, the top with quarter veneers having herring bone stringing and walnut cross banding over two short and three long drawers, all with herring bone banding and highly figured fronts, standing on molded base with bracket feet, the whole with good rich color and patination.

So called "mulberry" veneer was popular at the beginning of the 18th century, with Coxed and Woster of St. Paul's Churchyard being by far the most well documented cabinetmakers to utilize this material, which was not derived from mulberry trees at all, but was in actuality a chemically stained burl or field maple.
