Early 19th Century French Regency Secretary

Sold Sold
  • Description
An exceptionally handsome mahogany secretary desk, made in France, circa 1810. The desk was made in the Regency style and is decked in exquisite mahogany veneer. The desk can be separated into two bodies: the lower writing surface, and the upper glass-front cabinet. The writing surface is covered in beautiful black, tooled leather and can be pulled out for additional work space. The writing surface has a height of 27 1/4″ and the knee clearance is 22″H. The base also contains a long, functional drawer as well as a pigeon hole and four smaller drawers for stamps, parchment, and other writing implements. Above this little cubby, is the tall glass-front bookcase cabinet. The cabinet has three adjustable shelves: excellent for displaying books and other decorative objects. The doors contain their original glass and working lock. The secretary is lifted by four brilliantly turned legs, that have been done with a twisted style.
