Description Paolo Buffa / Giovanni Gariboldi / Giuseppe Anzani

Location: Greenwich Village

A superb example of the finest 20th Century inlaid wood marquetry; the cabinet boasts two deftly executed trophy reserves and a glorious crown designed by Gio Ponti's protégé Giovanni Gariboldi. The acute attention to detail creates a wonderfully realistic effect. Only the most choice pieces of wood were applied to each marquetry reserve by master inlay artist Giuseppe Anzani at the Gaffuri workshop in Cantú. The reserves compliment the trim and classically proportioned frame, accentuated by softly toned rosewood, herringbone parquetry, and acanthus marquetry borders. The whole terminating on cast brass sabots. The upper marquetry reserved signed by the inlay artist: G Anzani

A related cabinet is illustrated by Roberto Rizzi, I Mobili di Paolo Buffa, Cantù, 2001, p. 56
