  • Description
Godfrey Lenhart (1754-1819) was a York clockmaker who kept a shop in the heart of the city at George Street and Continental Square. This clock is marked #29 on the engraved brass dial. Unusual cutouts, in the form of pointed arch windows, fan and bell shapes decorate the waist and clock hood. Finely reeded and rope carved quarter columns, a carved fan placed at the top of the waist door, dentil molding and the plain but elegant broken arch pediment and original finials combine to form the carved decoration on the clock case. The waist door has interesting shaping at the bottom. The 8-day works also have a sweep second hand.

Godfrey Lenhart's ledger for the years 1778-1819 survives at the York County Heritage Trust archives.
