"KINK is an ambient sculptural table lamp made entirely in marble. The concept behind this lamp is to suggest a sculptural body and its instability, while the body is actually in perfect balance, it ac- tually tries to find its balance in the imbalance. This can be seen for example in the works of Jose Dávila. Dávila has always approached materials in a peculiar way, appreciating their original natural state often by just reorganizing them without altering them—something that makes him seem more like a catalyzer facilitating the processes of forces that already exist. This is mutually suggestive, given that the variables within his process are the materials themselves and their arrangement in the space, in addition to textures, weights, and, most importantly, the juxtaposition of these ele- ments, their relationships, and contrast. Gravity as an omnipresent force becomes the common thread of the exhibition and a central element. It is the force that joins and disjoints at once; each piece of the sculpture plays with the interactions between mass and strength and instability and balance. The important role played by the materials and the minimalist use of elements borrows from works by artists like Donald Judd, Richard Serra, Robert Smithson, and Dan Flavin— Peer has created with Kink a design piece that pays tribute to those artists, in an attempt to continue reinterpreting their valuable contributions. Kink presents itself as a monolithic, impenetrable body made of the most exquisite marbles, from White Lasa marble to Fantastico and Pink Onyx. Once the light is switched on - the viewer realizes that the marble dematerializes completely and giving the sense of a heart of warm ethereal light. Only then the underneath cut in the marble is revealed." - Hannes Peer
