Sophisticated Mid-Century Modernist Twelve-Arm Chandelier by Hans Agne Jakobsson
-
Description
This refined Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern chandelier was realized circa 1960 by the celebrated Swedish designer Hans Agne Jakobsson. Active between 1950 and roughly 1970- often considered the "golden age" of Scandinavian design- Jakobsson was renowned for his gently luminous, glare-free fixtures. Jakobsson, greatly inspired by other designers from the region, such as Alvar Aalto and Poul Henningson, continued and advanced the aesthetic lineage Scandinavian organic modernism. This fixture represents a stunning example of his practice. It features 12 curved arms with cylindrical supports and domed shades clustered tightly around a cupola like form all in polished brass. The chandelier attaches to the ceiling via a cylindrical rod and inverse domed canopy. With its dynamic form and impeccable construction, this piece embodies the qualities that discerning collectors of Mid Century Modern lighting adore. It has been newly rewired to American standards and is in excellent condition. The height can be adjusted to suit.
