Description Pendant fixture with spherical milk glass globe and satin aluminum fittings. Designed and produced by Kurt Versen, circa 1937. A Bauhaus-inspired design, befitting a Swedish-born designer who studied in Germany before emigrating to the United States in 1930. The rounded element that clamps the glass completes the circle, unlike later models which protrude atop. A larger version is in the permanent design collection at MoMA--it is a fine example of Machine Art--and has been used in exhibitions there, notably the 1959 retrospective "20th century Design from the Museum Collection." (See photo and description). From the estate of noted American graphic designer and artist Elaine Lustig Cohen, pictured in situ. The original ceiling cap is still painted black, but can be stripped back to the metal upon request of purchaser. With original Versen label intact.
