Luigi Caccia Dominioni, 'Porcino' Table lamp for Azucena, Italy, 1966

Sold Sold
  • Description
The 'Porcino' (Mod. LTA6 by Azucena) is one of the most representative lamps of Caccia Dominioni's production. It is made of a cylindrical base in chrome plated brass. The lampshade is a large frosted glass sphere that shields three bulbs with a hole at the top to give vent to a fourth bulb that lights upwards.

"An architect of noble descent, he did not belong to any school and therfore was able to move with agility from the design of a building to that of a lamp, from a stately home to a small apartment, from a convent to a supermarket. He was Milanese, indeed, "very Milanese" (as he liked to call himself) and from Milan he expressed that rigor that often hides a surprise: the industriousness that is not afraid of change, the respect for manual work that pushes the artisans to challenge new solutions. He has never tried to impose an iconic sign, much less a logo or an element that could become his trademark; on the contrary, he was ready to renew himself every time and to surprise his audience with ingenious and unexpected solutions. He loved to call himself “baroque” but many of his objects are so essential that they border on minimalism."

"He used to say that "apartments are micro cities" and people move inside them "essentially in curved lines, reminiscent of the sinuosity of waterways". This is why the curves that nature gives us and the straight lines that the architect draws meet gracefully in his most famous design objects, such as the Catilina chair, or the Fascia Specchiata table, And beyond every curve there can be a nice surprise."
