Description
Two Neoclassical style gilt bronze and cut glass candelabra
French, c.1900
Height 67cm, diameter 31cm
These two candelabra were created in France at the turn of the Century, crafted from gilt bronze and fine cut glass. The candelabra stand on baluster-shaped, fluted gilt bronze stems, which are set on circular bases with beaded edges. Each candelabrum has six arms, which curl outwards from the stem to hold wide, beaded drip-pans, topped by simple capitals and sconces. Chains of cut glass prisms and baubles hang between these arms. The stems of the candelabra are surmounted by a shaped, cut glass column. Each glass column is set with four tiers of scrolled, gilt bronze arms, from which hang many glass pendants. On the top tier, the glass has been cut to imitate flower heads, which curve downwards, as if pulled down by the weight of the glass baubles that decorate them. Above, the candelabra are crowned by large pointed faceted finials.
This pair of chandelier-esque, cut-glass candelabra will add great style and sophistication to an interior, and will sparkle and glow when used with candles. -
