French 19th Century Painted and Parcel-Gilt Pier Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 96″H x 47″W x 4-1/2″D
‘Impressive’ falls short when describing this outstanding 19th century painted and gilt French pier mirror. The mirror stands tall at 8′, with remarkably intact gold gilt and intricately carved-and-painted details. The mirror has a nautical theme, with beautiful gilt crabs and sea snails found in the frieze above the mirrored glass. The mirror retains its original glass, which has a beveled edge and is bordered by brilliant gilt trim and flanked by pilaster columns. The frame is painted a sage/mint green with gray details. Both the paint and gold gilt have patinated over time, however the gilt work still bears its brilliant metallic luster and the aged paint continues to improve with time. c.1870. -
