#9629PZ Circa 1805, New England. This eglomise looking glass is the epitome of neo-classic style in America as influenced by Regency design in England by Sheraton. The reverse-painted panels were probably imported from France. The scene is of a Gothic castle in ruins next to a restless sea done mostly in gold leaf. The frame is gold leaf and gilt on gesso on soft wood (probably pine.) This tabernacle mirror has its original back.
