18th c. Swedish Gustavian Daybed Sofa Bench with Griffons in Original Patina

Description
An exceptionally rare, hand-carved Swedish Gustavian period sofa or daybed, circa 1790, hand-scraped to reveal the original paint surface and newly upholstered in antique linen with a hand-stitched tufted seat and side bolster pillows. Beautiful carving and plaster detail with rosette and lamb's tongue carvings around the entire frame and legs adorned with acanthus leaves. The center back of the sofa features a typical Gustavian scene with a pair of griffons. This seat has the added benefit of storage under the lift-up seat plus the base pulls out to form a bed. The sides of the sofa are 35.32" high.
