Description This beautiful set of New York Classical chairs is among the finest examples in terms of its form, execution, design, and overall appearance. The croisillion scroll back with a central rectangular tablet and the figured veneered tablets in the crest, back brace, and front of the legs add a refined sophistication. The front legs terminate in distinctive carved animal paw feet.

These chairs appear to be the same set advertised in The Magazine Antiques in January, 1963 and exhibited at The Winter Antiques Show that same January. In January 1994, they sold in the important sale of Ronald Kane’s collection of New York Classical furniture at Christie’s. His collection had been formed and consulted with the assistance of two of his friends, Berry Tracy who became a curator of the American Wing at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Edward Vason Jones, Consulting Architect for the White House. This set of chairs was most recently in the collection of Mr. Jack Warner and The Westervelt Company of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
