Description Our collection consists of designs from many Knoll greats including Eero Saarinen and Florence Knoll, another great name who designed for Knoll is Bill Stephens. While his name may be lesser known, his influence within Knoll in the 1960s-1970s was great; in 1971 he would become the principle designer of Knoll's Design and Development Group. His work is often regarded as a momentous in the realm of laminated wood, a process which could inexpensively bring high design to a mass-production scale.

This model 1315 Chair is Stephens' approach to a lounge. It can unquestionably be considered a revisitation of Eero Saarinen's famed Womb Chair; another Knoll classic. In Stephen's design, the frame is made from expertly laminated bentwood, only a skilled eye would be able to spot the fine joinery in the frame. A highlight of this chair is the artful movement of wood grain throughout, a flow which seemingly surrounds the upholstered seat with tremendous ease. The Montage Workroom team selected a crisp Faux Lambswool in the color Snow for the upholstery. It is a special feeling sitting in Stephens' lambswool "womb" chair, the combination of materials we feel renews this design for today's modern world. In addition to new upholstery, the bentwood frame has been refinished in a rich natural stain to celebrate the wood grain and topped with satin lacquer. The result is a Bill Stephen's design fit to live on for at least another lifetime.
