Scarpa 'Cornaro' Sofa set in ivory bouclé for Simon - 1970's

Sold Sold
  • Description
Cornaro sofa set by Carlo Scarpa for Simon, ivory bouclé, solid wood, Italy 1973. The 'Cornaro' sofa by Carlo Scarpa is an example of the ultrarazionale style, breaking away from the strict limits of rationalism, resulting in a sofa with a solid hardwood structure and one-unit side and back cushion fastened to the frame corners. The sofa has a very thick cushion and is upholstered with bouclé fabric. Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) is known as a virtuoso of light, a master of detail, and a connoisseur of materials. He is most well-known for his architectural projects, counting 58 in total. Most famous are the Castelvecchio Museum in Verona, the Olivetti showroom in Venice, and the Brion Tomb in San Vito d’Altivole. His lush use of decorative aspects and crafted details are still unrivaled. His designs show very clear traits of Scarpa’s aesthetic language that holds the middle between Japanese minimalism and organic forms of nature.
