Early LCM Chair in Rare Aniline Red by Charles Eames for Herman Miller
-
Description
Molded plywood lounge chair with metal base in original condition. The LCM chair is a classic design by the American designer couple Charles and Ray Eames. The acronym "LCM" stands for "Lounge Chair Metal" and refers to the chair's combination of molded plywood for the seat and backrest and a tubular steel frame.
Designed in 1945, the LCM is notable for its ergonomic design, which conforms to the contours of the body for maximum comfort. Originally produced by the furniture company Herman Miller, it quickly became an iconic piece of mid-century modern design. The chair's combination of organic forms and industrial materials was emblematic of the Eameses' design philosophy, which emphasized the use of new materials and manufacturing techniques to create innovative and functional designs. -
