Description
Cast in one bronze piece, the elegant Lily Pad Stool is at once a functional object and a free-standing sculpture. Sullivan hand sculpts layer upon layer of fragile lily pad leaves that are built up on each other to form the stool which is then cast in the lost wax method.
The work expresses ideas of time and memory, constant themes in Sullivan’s repertoire. In both the Flora Series and Fauna Series, Sullivan immortalizes the intricacies and delicacy within the natural world in cast bronze, a durable material capable of surviving many several millennia. The artist crafts an aesthetic equilibrium between life and death, nature and artifact, and art and design.
New York based contemporary sculptor Erin Sullivan employs the labor-intensive lost-wax process to create exquisite, realistic bronze interpretations of her organic subject matter. As Sullivan works on a commission basis, custom dimensionality and finishes may be accommodated.
Materials: Bronze with silver nitrate patina finish.
