Description This pair of stunningly elegant lounge chairs by the American furniture designer and sculptor Frank B. Kyle who settled in Mexico City in the early 1950s. Constructed out of black lacquered and contrasting stained rosewood, and brass stretchers and fitting hardware, this pair of chairs features woven wicker seats and backs. The choice of materials creates an exciting duality of formal and informal design, a theme seen repeatedly in Kyle's work. Kyle's gallery "Kyle de Mexico" was one of the early "integrated" showrooms in Mexico City, offering a selection of furniture including dining sets, chairs, tables and screens and accessories including lamps designed by Kyle. A carefully curated selection of oriental lamps and accessories, batiks, tapestries and screens completed the companies offerings. Almost immediately after establishing his workshop in Mexico, Kyle was awarded first prize at the 1953 Milan Triennale for a pair of Willow model black lacquered rosewood chairs. This recognition, combined with the excellent overall quality of his furniture, allowed Kyle to thrive, supplying pieces for major residential, commercial, and hotel projects into the 1980s. One of Kyle's recognized specialties was his lacquered finishes. As seen in this pair of chairs Kyle juxtaposed black lacquered rosewood. 21.5ʺW × 21.0ʺD × 33.13ʺH
