Description This elegant pair of Chiavari or Chiavarina chairs was designed by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi in 1807. The chairs were handmade by Fratelli Zunino and Rivarola in Chiavari in the early 1950s. The natural lacquered frames made of solid beech feature intricately carved and turned details in the spindle backrest and front legs. The chairs retain their original finely woven cane seating with the original labels and stickers of the manufacturer underneath.

The slim and light chairs from Chiavari as originally designed by Descalzi were the inspiration for Gio Ponti's 'superleggera' chair.
