Description Peter Hvidt and Orla Molgaard-Nielsen were esteemed as both architects and furniture designers. They designed the Portex chair in the 1940s. It was one of the first stacking chairs in Danish design, a response to the demand for the kinds of easy industrialized designs popularized by their contemporaries Charles and Ray Eames. The molded plywood seat and back with their organic curves, the cylindrical legs, even the placement of the metal hardware that makes them so beautifully stackable, contribute to a very graceful chair.
