Description
A fine pair of circa 1805 English George III period hall chairs of solid mahogany construction having octagonal tablet form back-rests with original hand-painted Adair family armorial heraldic crest of 'Savage's Head' on side-scrolled plinths connecting shaped seats with reeded edge on turned front and splayed rear legs.
Provenance: Likely from Heatherton Park, Somerset, or Colehayes Park, Devon, and commissioned by William (Hugh) Adair (1754-1844) the owner of both estates in addition to Flixton Hall, Suffolk, and father of Sir Robert Shafto Adair, 1st Baronet (1786–1869) and Sir Robert Alexander Shafto Adair, 2nd Baronet (1811–1886), created Baron Waveney in 1873. -
