Description This rare set of chairs were handcrafted by George Nakahsima (1905-1990) in his New Hope studio dated October 1960. Constructed in solid cherry and hickory, these chairs are one of the earliest designs by Nakashima after he settled down in New Hope. The form and construction of these chairs were clearly influenced by both traditional Japanese woodwork and American vernacular style, particularly the Shaker furniture, both of which primarily concern on the functionality of the object and minimalism in aesthetic. Not as widely produced as the other chair models, these make an outstanding set for this particular model.
